A dynamic analysis is of prime importance if the structure has any kind of cyclic loading. In order to avoid unnecessary vibration excitation during the operating condition and improve performance, ideally any design’s natural frequency should be away from the range of operating frequencies. This could be simulated with modal analysis to understand natural frequencies and mode shapes. The following figure shows the first natural frequency and mode shape of a typical fixture design used in machining application. A frequency response analysis (Harmonic analysis), unit mobility and transfer mobility analysis enables to understand how the overall system will respond for the time varying force excitation. The other important dynamic analysis to study the effect of impact on the design is through Random vibration analysis and transient vibration analysis.
